According to Greek newspaper Live Sport, a representative from FC Koln traveled to Greece to negotiate with Olympiacos for Panagiotis Retsos’ transfer to Germany. The German club offered the Erythrolefki €10 million for his transfer, however the Greeks declined the offer. Koln, who were one of the better sides in this year’s Bundesliga, finished 5th in league play and will partake in next year’s UEFA Europa League.
A few weeks prior, another German club, Borussia Monchengladbach, offered €8 million for Retsos but again the Piraeus side responded negatively. Olympiacos price the player at €12 million and look to hold a 15-20% re-sale fee if he were to be sold after leaving Olympiacos.
The 18-year old, who recently earned his first call-up to the Greek national team, has been a hot target for many clubs in Europe, including Southampton and multiple teams from Germany. It should not come as a surprise if a club eventually offers Olympiacos’ asking price, which would lead to the player’s transfer elsewhere.
Retsos had a great season with Olympiacos and despite his young age, he made 18 appearances in this Superleague, 8 in the Cup, and 7 in the UEFA Europa League.
