Siopis and Manthatis amongst list of departing Olympiacos player
Greek internationals Manolis Siopis and Georgios Manthatis were loaned off for the new season joining a list of Olympiacos players that departed the club on the last day of the transfer window.
Manolis Siopis has joined his former club, Panionios, on a one-year loan deal from Olympiacos. The Greece international, who played a key role in Panionios’ successful season last year, was not in coach Hasi’s plans for the upcoming season and the decision was made to loan him out. Olympiacos have a plethora of options in the defensive midfield potion including Ofoe, Gillet, Zdjelar, and Tachtsidis.
Last year’s surprise young gun, Georgios Manthatis, will also stay in Greece on a one-year loan deal at PAS Giannina. The 20-year old had fallen out of Hasi’s first options for the wing position and the youngster will look to get valuable playing time with the Epirotes. Manthatis’ stellar displays last season earned him a call up for Greece’s World Cup qualifier against Belgium last March.
Along with Siopis and Manthatis,Tarik Elyounoussi will play the upcoming season on loan at Qarabag. The Norwegian international never really convinced Hasi for a place on the roster and the winger will join PAOK’s Enrique at the Azerbaijani side. Qarabag will play in this year’s UEFA Champions League with Roma, Atletico Madrid, and Chelsea in Group C.
Pajtim Kasami was released by the Erythrolefki and signed a 3-year deal back home with Swiss side Sion. Kasami played last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and after unconvincing performances with Olympiacos in the off-season, the player decided to continue his career elsewhere.
Finally, Andreas Gianniotis was released by Olympiacos after the club signed Belgian goalkeeper Silvio Proto on deadline day. Gianniotas had a great 2016/17 season on loan at Panionios from Olympiacos, however Proto’s addition leaves him with no place in the Olympiacos roster and the 24-year old keeper will look for the next stop in his career.
