Five players selected were called up for this first time and they include goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis (Olympiacos, on-loan to Panionios), defenders Babis Lykogiannis (Sturm Graz), Panagiotis Retsos (Olympiacos), Giorgos Koutroubis (Panathinaikos), and attacker Tasos Donis (Juventus, on-loan to Nice).
The rest of the squad will have a familiar look to it. Greece will be without four players due to suspension as Andreas Samaris, Giorgos Tzavellas, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, and Panagiotis Tachtsidis all miss out. In addition to those absences, Nikos Karelis is also not available for selection due to his long-term injury.
Despite a strong finish to the domestic campaign, Skibbe could not find a place for AEK’s Lazaros Christodoulopoulos. Also omitted from the squad were Olympiacos youngsters Thanasis Androutsos and Giorgos Manthatis, who both had been called up for the Belgium match back in March. The Greek team will meet on Saturday for their first training session at Agios Kosmas.
