Skibbe thinking of starting Lazaros against Cyprus
Greece coach Michael Skibbe is thinking of starting Lazaros Christodoulopoulos in Saturday’s qualifier against Cyprus.
With the exception of Tasos Donis, Greece coach Michael Skibbe will have a full and healthy roster at hand for Greece’s qualifier against Cyprus on Saturday. The German boss has not laid out his plans for the starting lineup, however according to reports, in-form Lazaros Christodoulopoulos will likely start on the left wing for Greece. Skibbe wants to take full advantage of Christodoulopoulos’ explosive form of late with AEK and hope that the 30-year old gives a similar performance with the Ethniki on Saturday.
Karnezis will be the starting goalkeeper while Torosidis (or Maniatis), Papastathopoulos, Manolas, and Tzavellas will be the back four. Zeca is guaranteed a place in the midfielder while for yet another game, Tziolis is favored to partner Zeca in the 4-2-3-1 formation. Samaris (recovered from gastroenteritis) and Maniatis are also options to replace Tziolis in the starting XI.
Mantalos will be placed on the right wing with his club teammate, Christodoulopoulos, on the other wing. Reports also state that Stafylidis could start in Lazaros’ place if the AEK man begins the match on the bench. Fortounis will be the #10 behind the lone striker, Kostas Mitroglou, who will return after missing the Ethniki’s previous qualifiers against Estonia and Belgium.
