Sloukas renews contract with Fenerbahce
Kostas Sloukas will continue his career with Fenerbahce after signing a new deal with the club.
Despite the interest of both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, Kostas Sloukas will remain in Turkey with Fenerbahce for the upcoming seasons. The Greece international signed a new 2+1 year deal with the Turkish club which includes an increase in his annual wage to €1.7 million a year with bonuses.
Sloukas was a key factor in Fenerbahce’ tremendous season, which saw the team win their first Euroleague title in club history while enjoying domestic success by claiming the Turkish Basketbol Super Ligi title. In this year’s Euroleague run, Sloukas average 9.92 ppg and 4.5 assists per game.
Fenerbahce announced the deal after reports earlier in the day stated that Sloukas denied a very good offer from Panathinaikos. The Prasini offered Sloukas a 3-year contract with annual earnings of €2 million, which is more than his new deal at Fenerbahce.
Sloukas denied the extra money from Panathinaikos stating “I am not ready to make that move in my career” as he has played for Panathinaikos’ eternal enemy, Olympiacos, in the past. In addition, he is happy at fenerbahce and respects the trust that coach Zeljko Obradovic has in his abilities.
After signing his new deal, Sloukas posted on Instagram stating “New contract, same family. Fener till 2020. We still have a lot to win together.”
