Spanoulis 2015...Spanoulis 2017
Similar to the 2015 Euroleague Final-4, Vassilis Spanoulis made the difference for Olympiacos against CSKA Moscow leading his team to yet another Euroleague Final.
On Friday, Olympiacos defeated CSKA Moscow 82-78 to advance to this year’s Euroleague Final. Although it was a great TEAM effort from the Erythrolefki, it was Vassilis Spanoulis who stepped up once again at the most critical times in the game.
With just under two minutes to play and Olympiacos down by two, Spanoulis stepped back and drained a 3-pointer in the face of CSKA’s Victor Khryapa, giving Olympiacos the lead. The 3-point attempt gave Olympiacos their first lead since early in the game and set the stage for yet another Olympiacos triumph past the Russian giants.
In the 2015 Euroleague Final-4 against CSKA Moscow, it was Spanoulis who once again took down the Russian side. After an Olympiacos comeback led by Spanoulis brought the Erythrolefki back in the game, the scores were tied at 66-66. With under 10 seconds remaining, Kill-Bill was untroubled by De Colo’s tight defending and drained a 3-pointer ultimately sending Olympiacos to their 3rd Championship game in four years (eventually lost to Real Madrid).
With Spanoulis, Olympiacos have NEVER lost to CSKA Moscow in the Euroleague Final-4, defeating CSKA in the 2013, 2015, and 2017 semi-finals and in the dramatic 2012 Final in Turkey. In addition, Spanoulis has yet to taste defeat in the semi-finals of the Euroleague in five appearances, one with Panathinaikos and four with Olympiacos. On Sunday, he will look to win his third Euroleague title with the Erythrolefki and the fourth title of his career.
