Stefanidi Nominated for Athlete of the Year
 

Greek pole vaulter Ekaterini Stefanidi is among the favorites to win the title of “European Athlete of the Year” for 2017. Stefanidi, who won the World Championships, European Indoor Championships, and Diamond League in 2017, would be a worthy recipient of this award.

Not only did Stefanidi have the best jump of the year in the world (at 4.91 meters), but she also went unbeaten in 14 consecutive competitions. 

There are a total of 10 women nominated for “European Athlete of the Year.” Stefanidi’s main rivals for this are Croat Sandra Perkovic, Czech Barbora Spotakova, Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, Polish Anita Wlodarczyk, and Dutch Dafne Schippers.
