TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
Track & Field – Men's Shot Put, Qualifying A: Nicholas Scarvellis
***Scarvellis failed to qualify for the Final round of the competition with his best throw at 19.37 meters, ranking him 27th overall.
Wrestling – Women's Freestyle 53kg, Quarter-Finals: Maria Prevolaraki
***Maria Prevolaraki got off to a good start in the competition defeating Babita Kumari from India 5-1 in the Round of 16. Unfortunately she lost to Betzabeth Angelica Arguello Villegas from Venezuela 6-3 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, Villegas was defeated and Prevolaraki was not given a second opportunity in the repechage round for a bronze medal.
SAILING – Men’s 470, Medal Race: Kagialis & Mantis
***Kagialias & Mantis earned Greece's fifth medal at the Rio games after winning the BRONZE medal in the Men's 470 Sailing Event. Full story here...
Water Polo – Men's Tournament, 5th-8th Place Matches: Greece - Spain (9-7)
***Greece bounced back from their loss to Italy in the quarter-finals by defeating Spain 9-7 in the 5th-8th place matches and will face Hungary for 5th place on Thursday.
