Tachtsidis joins Lecce on loan in Serie B
Struggling Greek midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis will look to improve his fortunes at new club Lecce, signing for the Serie B side on loan from Nottingham Forest until the completion of the 2018/2019 season.
After falling out of favour at Olympiacos, Tachtsidis transferred to Nottingham Forest on a free in September, but the midfielder endured a nightmare in the English Championship. During his short stay in Nottingham, the 27-year old didn’t register a single appearance for the team, and he was only placed on the substitutes’ bench once. As a result, Nottingham Forest allowed Tachtsidis to join Lecce on loan for the remainder of the 2018/2019 season, and the Italian organisation will have the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.
Lecce confirmed the arrival of Tachtsidis with this following statement on their official website:
“US Lecce announces that it has acquired Panagiotis Tachtsidis on loan from Nottingham Forest, with the option to purchase the player in the event of promotion to Serie A or by the club’s wishes.”
At the moment, Lecce are competing in Serie B, but they currently occupy fifth place in the standings and are regarded as one of the favourites for promotion to the top tier.
Tachtsidis is certainly no stranger to Italian football, having previously represented Genoa, Cesena, Grosseto, Hellas Verona, AS Roma, Catania, Torino and Cagliari in the country. He’s played in 25 matches for the senior Greek national team and will be hoping to force his way into head coach Angelos Anastasiadis’ plans.
