Tasty prize money awaiting Greece if team qualifies for the FIFA World Cup
If Greece are to get past Croatia and qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Hellenic Football Federation will receive tasty prize money.
Following a council meeting in India during October, FIFA have decided that the monetary reward for countries participating at the World Cup will take a 12% rise. At the 2014 World Cup, a tournament which Greece competed at, teams were given an overall prize fund of 309 million euros. However, that will be increased to 344 million in 2018. Back in 2014, Germany received 30 million of the overall fund, while fellow finalists Argentina were handed 21.5 million.
According to gazzetta.gr reports, the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) will be handed at least 10 million if the team qualifies for the final tournament. That figure could rise depending on how far Greece go in the competition.
