On Monday, the courts decided to give Olympiacos a 3:0 victory over PAOK along with a 3-point deduction to the Thessalonikis for the incidents that occured on February 25th’s abandoned derby at the Toumba stadium between the two clubs. The decision, along with PAOK’s weekend defeat to Asteras Tripolis, served as a major damper to the title hopes of the Dikefalos tou Vorra, who were cruising in top spot just a couple weeks ago.

On the other hand, AEK, lead the table and have been in excellent form. The Kitrinomavri are the favorites to win this year’s league title as they sit in top spot with 54 points and could finish the job with a victory over PAOK on Sunday at an empty Toumba stadium.

PAOK sit in second place with 49 points and have appealed the court’s decision, which includes their 3-point deduction. Olympiacos, who sit in third with 47 points, were handed a much needed off-the-field victory over PAOK for the incidents, but have also been deducted 3 points for fan violence at the Karaiskakis stadium following Olympiacos’ defeat to AEK on February 4th.

Atromitos are also in the hunt for second spot as they sit in fourth place with 46 points, just one point behind Olympiacos and three points behind PAOK.

The current Superleague standings are as follows:

AEK 54 points
PAOK 49 points*
Olympiacos 47** points
Atromitos 46 points

*This includes PAOK’s three point deduction, however the club have lodged an appeal with a final decision still pending
**This includes Olympiacos’ three point deduction, however the club have lodged an appeal with a final decision still pending

If Olympiacos and PAOK are re-awarded their deducted points, the standings will be as follows:

AEK 54 points
PAOK 52 points
Olympiacos 50 points
Atromitos 46 points

In the second scenario, a tight title race is expected with six games remaining. As of now, the most important matchup on the calendar will be this weekend’s derby in Thessaloniki when PAOK host AEK at an empty Toumba stadium.
