The offense that resulted in Manolas’ suspension for Croatia - Greece clash
Watch the booking that Kostas Manolas received in Greece’s qualifier against Cyprus that was deemed deliberate by FIFA resulting in the defender’s one-match suspension to be served in Greece's first leg clash in Croatia.
On Friday, FIFA handed Greece defender Kostas Manolas a one match suspension for violating the Fair Play rules. FIFA ruled that the 26-year-old got himself booked on purpose in the final moments of the recent Group H qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia, which Greece won 2-1, in order to miss out on the final group match against Gibraltar so that he would begin the playoffs with a clean disciplinary record.
The decision, which cannot be appealed, means that Kostas Manolas will be unavailable for Greece’s first match away Croatia in the World Cup Qualifying European playoffs.
