The Telegraph Selects Manolas As One Of World’s Best Defenders
English newspaper/website The Telegraph has selected Kostas Manolas as one of the top 25 defenders in world football.
Earlier this week, the newspaper’s website published a piece with its top defenders in the world and Greek international and Roma center-back Manolas featured, listed in 24th spot by journalist Rob Bagchi.
This is another example of how Manolas continues to earn plaudits for his performances with Roma over the past couple seasons. And the 25-year-old is rumored to be making a big money move this summer either to another Italian side (Inter being the favorites) or abroad.
In the article, Manolas was described as a:
“Tough and powerful center-half who is as assured and typically dominant in the air as any old-fashioned stopper, but times his crisp, juddering tackles as sweetly as any cultured No. 6. Truly unrelenting as a marker, his relentless physicality could make a forward feel violated after 90 minutes.”
Manolas was included in the list alongside some of the best center-backs and full-backs in the game. The top five defenders chosen were:
1. Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus)
2. Marcelo (Real Madrid)
3. Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
4. Phillip Lahm (Bayern Munich)
5. Gerard Pique (Barcelona)
