It was an electrifying atmosphere at the sold-out Melina Merkouri Indoor Hall where Olympiacos hosted Bursa in the first leg of this year’s CEV Women’s Challenge Cup Final. The fans not only chanted during the entire match but created a beautiful coreo before the start of today’s first leg.

It was the visitors who dominated the opening two sets by coming away with two easy wins (18-25 and 15-15) to take a commanding 0-2 lead. At that point, Bursa seemed unstoppable, however everything changed for the Erythrolefkes.

In the third set, the hosts took more risks in their style of play and held a small 3-point lead for most of the set. A late 6-1 run gave Olympiacos the 25-20 set win and a lifeline in the match.

The fourth set was a tightly contested one with the Turkish side holding an 18-19 lead before a tremendous 8-0 run brought Olympiacos level in the match (25-17), sparking fire inside the stadium.

The match was sent to a tiebreaker set with the momentum clearly on Olympiacos’ side. The Erythrolefkes did not disappoint as they went ahead 14-7 and completed the unthinkable comeback with a 15-10 set win.

The Olympiacos Women’s Volleyball team will look to win their first European Title when they travel to Turkey for the second leg on Saturday at 9:00 AM (EST). Olympiacos will be crowned champions of this year’s CEV Challenge Cup if they win in Turkey. If they lose 3-2, the match will go into a golden set while a 3-1 or 3-0 loss will see Bursa take the title.
