A poor opening 30 minutes proved costly for Olympiacos as they were defeated 64-60 by Anadolu Efes in game 3 of the Euroleague Playoffs and fell behind in the best of five series.
Anadolu Efes dominated the opening three quarters of game 3 for the Euroleague playoffs, increasing their advantage to as many as 17-points (51-34) near the end of the third quarter.
However everything changed in the final 10-minutes with Olympiacos increasing the pressure on the defensive end, holding their opponents away from the basket. The Olympiacos offense got off to a slow start in the final quarter, but with Vasilis Spanoulis catching fire from behind the arch (hit 3 consecutive acrobatic-like three-pointers) the visitors pulled within one point (61-60) with 18 seconds remaining.
The hosts made no mistake from the free-throw line to increase their lead to three, 63-60, before Spanoulis was unable to convert an unbalanced three-point effort which would have brought Olympiacos on level terms. Despite Olympiacos’ late push, Efes went on to win game 3 64-60.
Spanoulis finished with 15 points, 7 assists, and 8 turnovers while Printezis, Green, and Mantzaris each scored 8 points. Perasovic was Efes’ best player on the night, grabbing every rebound, with Danston hitting big shots at the end to finish with 16 points.
Game 4 will take place in Turkey on Friday with Olympiacos needing a win to stay alive and send the series to game 5 in Greece. Game 4 will be available via live stream from AGONAsport. Details to be released shortly.
