Traustason ends his AEK nightmare with permanent move to Malmo
Arnor Ingvi Traustason’s nightmare in Greece is finally over. The 24 year old Icelandic international, who only joined AEK in the summer, has forced his way out of the Greek capital following a troubled few months with the Enosis.
After signing for AEK on loan from Rapid Vienna, it became clear that head coach Manolo Jimenez wasn’t struck on the midfielder. Since August, Traustason has made just five AEK appearances, scoring one goal in the Greek Cup against Apollon Larissa. In a recent interview, he spoke of his eagerness to leave Greece in search of regular playing time.
During this week, Traustason and AEK came to an agreement which allows him to leave the club. However, he will not return to Rapid Vienna. It’s now official that Traustason has penned a permanent deal with Malmo FF in Sweden, putting pen to paper on a contract which will run until 2021. On his Instagram account, Traustason posted a photo of himself posing in Malmo’s shirt, stating that he’s excited to get going. “Proud and delighted to have signed for Malmo FF. Can’t wait to enter the Swedbank Stadion wearing the Malmo shirt!”
Traustason will play his first match for Malmo FF in 2018. With the World Cup around the corner, he will be hoping that his career takes a needed boost in Sweden.
