Georgios Papagiannis has signed with the Portland Trail Blazers until the end of the 2018/2019 season after impressing the club’s brass during an initial 10-day contract with the club.
Despite not making an appearance for Portland since signing his 10-day contract with the team on 6 March, Portland clearly sees the upside of the 20-year-old center – something the Sacramento Kings didn’t see prior to waiving the Marousi native.
Papagiannis developed a bad reputation as a bust draft pick after the Kings opted to waive the former Panathinaikos man despite drafting Papagiannis 13th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft – a pick the Kings secured following a trade with the Phoenix Suns.
Since Papagiannis was waived by the Kings prior to 1 March, the Greek international is playoff eligible and could suit up for the team in the postseason.
Papagiannis’ playoff eligibility likely made the decision on his future at the Moda Center easier with the Trail Blazers currently in the middle of a 13-game win streak and firmly in third place in the NBA’s Western Conference.
