UEFA give Panathinaikos until March to pay off debts
If Panathinaikos are to return to European competitions, the Greens have to improve both on the pitch, and off it. UEFA, Europe’s footballing governing body, gave the struggling Athenian giants a new deadline to pay off existing debt.
Recently, it became clear that UEFA have given Panathinaikos until March 1 to pay off existing debts with are owed to creditors. However, if the Prasini fail to comply with UEFA’s request, they will be banned from all European competitions for one season whenever the club qualifies for them next between 2018 and 2021.
A fine of 100 thousand euros is already in place, but that will be doubled to 200 thousand if Panathinaikos don’t meet UEFA’s deadline. At this moment in time, Panathinaikos occupy ninth position of the Super League, trailing leaders PAOK by an unprecedented 22 points.
