UEFA nominate Manolas for ‘Team of the Year’

UEFA announced the top 50 footballers for 2018 which includes Greek defender Kostas Manolas.

UEFA’s top 50 footballers for 2018 has some Greek flavor with the inclusion of Roma defender Kostas Manolas. The distinguished UEFA 2018 Team of the Year will be selected from the fifty-player list released on Monday.

Manolas will fight for a place in UEFA’s Best XI along with defenders: Jordi Alba (FC Barcelona), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid), Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid), Lucas Hernandez (Atletico Madrid), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Gerard Pique (FC Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), John Stones (Manchester City), Samuel Umtiti (FC Barcelona), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid).

The former Olympiacos and AEK man is regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe and his name has been (and continuous to be) linked with a move to teams such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona, and other world class clubs. He made his name known during last year’s UEFA Champions League when is late, headed goal against Barcelona in the second leg of their quarter-final clash with Roma, eliminated the Catalan giants from the competition in a memorable 3:0 comeback victory for the Giallorossi (down 4:1 on aggregate after the first leg).

According to UEFA’s site, UEFA.com's editors and correspondents helped make the selection based on players' domestic and international performances, as well as their displays in club competitions: the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and, UEFA Super Cup. The list represents 14 clubs and 20 different national teams. In addition to Manolas, his teammate Edin Dzeko also represents Roma in the distinguished list.
