Vassilopoulos swaps Aris for AEK

AEK have announced the acquisition of forward Panagiotis Vassilopoulos following the former Greek international’ departure from Aris earlier this week.
A statement of the club’s official website (www.aekbc.gr) confirmed the acquisition of Vassilopoulos, just days after the club announced the termination of Bandja Sy’s contract.
“AEK are pleased to announce today (19/01) the signed contract of cooperation with Panagiotis Vassilopoulos until the end of the season,” read the announcement from the club.
Vassilopoulos had just signed for Aris this past off-season, but with the Thessaloniki outfit struggling and a desire from Vassilopoulos to return to his native Athens, both the club and player agreed on a release by mutual consent.
By joining AEK, Vassilopoulos joins his fifth club since the start of the 2015 season. The 33-year-old isn’t expected to be a starter for the Enosi, but his veteran experience can add to the team’s depth particularly in the team’s European campaign in the FIBA Basketball Champions League and possibly for a deep run in the Greek Basket League playoffs.
