Panathinaikos finished the first half of the Euroleague season with a narrow 67-63 defeat to Valencia in Spain.
The Prasini failed to impress in their round 15 clash against Valencia and tasted their fifth defeat of the Euroleague season. It was a close encounter between the two sides and a late lapse of composure from the Greens saw Valencia celebrate their first victory in 10 Euroleague games. The visitors had a golden chance to send the game into overtime, with Valencia ahead 65-63, but KC Rivers was unable to convert a lay-up under pressure (after stealing the ball from the opposition) in the final seconds of the game.
Panathinaikos, who where without an in-form Calathes (injury), lacked on the offensive end with only 10 total assists in the match and 15 turnovers. Lojeski stepped up for the Trifylli with 17 points while Denmon followed with 10 points. Singleton had an impressive all-around game with 9 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks.
Panathinaikos sit in third place with a 10-5 record, tied with Zalgiris, and continue to hold the upper-hand for home-court advantage in the playoffs. Valencia sit second from bottom with a disappointing 4-11 record.
Next up for Panathinaikos is Anadolu Efes at the OAKA after the New Year (January 4).
