We are all Bros
The message was “We are all bros” in the friendly match between the Antetokounmpo brothers and the Greek national dream team of 2005 at the Nick Galis Hall in Thessaloniki. The Antetokounbros prevailed with a 109-107 victory.
It was a celebration at the Nick Galis Hall in Thessaloniki as the Antetokounbros played the legendary Greek national basketball team that were crowned champions of Europe in 2005 and finished second in the 2006 FIBA World Cup. Over 6,000 fans attended the second annual “Antetokounbros Event.”
In an effort to eliminate stereotypes and promote unity, Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo along with their childhood friends (Team Antetokounbros) matched up against the likes of Diamantidis, Papaloukas, Zisis, Kakiouzis, Dikoudis, Chatzivrettas, Papadopoulos, Tsatsaris, and Vasilopoulos, with the Antetokounmbros prevailing with a 109-107 win. Of course the score was of the least importance in today's celebration.
The last play of today’s game was a replica of the 2005 Eurobasket semi-final against France, where Zisis set up Diamantidis for the game winning shot to send the Greek team to the final. However, today Diamantidis was unable to repeat his miraculous shot from 2005. When Diamantidis entered the court, the fans chanted his name “Diamantidis, oe, oe, oe” in a truly touching moment for the Greek basketball legend.
The Antetokounmpo brothers recently partnered with the Hellenic League of Wheelchair Associations and before the match, basketball athletes in wheelchairs played a game with hopes of advertising the sport to the world. Another touching moment at the Nick Galis Hall was when Thanasis Antetokounmpo gave his shoes to PAOK’s well known fan, Giannaki, who is in a wheelchair.
The match ended with the Antetokounmpo brothers and Theodoros Papaloukas thanking the fans for coming out and supporting this great event. After another successful Antetokounbros Event, the next randevu is scheduled for next summer.
