APOEL recorded an important 1-4 road win over Salamina in their first game of the new league season. The hosts took the defending champions by surprise when Damahou scored early on after stealing the ball from Waterman’s poor pass, putting his side in the lead. However, APOEL managed to elevate the pace of the game and equalized with Hungarian youngster Sallai, the club’s most expensive summer signing. APOEL completed the comeback in the second half, with De Camargo finding the back of the net on two occasions while Mickael Pote scored his first goal to give the Galazokitrini the win.
Apollon were held to a 1-1 draw away to Olympiakos in Nicosia. It was the visitors’ first league game of the season and they failed to continue their impressive performances in Europe that saw them qualify for the Europa League group stages. The hosts opened the scoring with Pachipis just before half time before Apollon equalized shortly after the restart with Jander. Neither side found a winner as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw. Newly promoted Olympiakos grabbed their second point of the campaign while Apollon failed to start their league season with a win against a theoretically weaker opponent.
AEL prevailed over Doxa in Limassol with a 1-0 scoreline in what was a tough game for the hosts. AEL were the overall better side during the match, wasting many chances, while Doxa were dangerous on the counterattack. Aldair’s header gave AEL the three points in the 78th minute doubling their wins in their first two games.
Pafos and Alki fought to a 1-1 draw at the Pafiako Stadium. The hosts were the better side in the first half and opened the scoring with Janza in the 3rd minute. Although Pafos were stronger on the pitch, Alki managed to pull level with Duventru at the end of the first half.
Anorthosis dominated Aris at home, but took an hour to finally open the scoring with Cisse, which proved to be the winner in a 1-0 win for the hosts. Anorthosis are now leading the table with 7 points from three games.
Omonoia hosted Ethnikos Achnas in their season opener with the fans filling the GSP Stadium to see their new team under coach Pambos Christodoulou. The hosts were the better side and last season’s top scorer, Matt Derbyshire, registered his first goal of the year in the 25th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead. Ethnikos fought back in the second half and managed to equalize with Kipian in the 69th minute, before Derbyshire striked again just before the end to give Omonia a 2 - 1 win to start the season.
It was a dominating performance by AEK Larnaka as they emphatically defeated Ermis 0-4. Florian Tolemes opened the scoring in the 9th minute and the same man doubled AEK’s lead twenty minutes later. Trickovski scored the third for the Larnakeis who went into halftime with a three goal advantage. Ermis could not chalk up a response as AEK created countless chances before Mytides capped off a great night for the visitors. AEK are two for two while Ermis are still looking for their first points.
