AGONAsport's Marios Antoniou and Andreas Mantzas recap this weekend's action in the Cyprus relegation playoff group.
Doxa visited the Ammochostos Stadium and left with 1:3 away win over Alki Oroklinis. Berat Sadik failed to open the scoring for Doxa in the 7th minute as his penalty kick was denied by Kyriakos Stratilatis. It was Fabricio Simoes who punished the visitors for their missed effort by giving Alki the lead in the 37th minute. After a rather boring second half, a hat-trick in the final three minutes from Sadik gave the visitors the unexpected victory. The Finnish striker scored in the 87th minute to pull Doxa level before scoring twice in second stoppage time.
In Paphos. the local team hosted relegated Olympiakos and prevailed with a 3:2 victory. Valdo Soares headed Vladislav Gabovs’ ball in the net on 21 minutes for the only goal in the first half to give the home side the 1:0 lead.
Three minutes into the second half, Luca Polizzi equalised for Olympiakos taking advantage of a poor back pass from the Pafos defence. In the 63rd minute, Kevin Berigaud’s penalty put Pafos in front once again before Olympiakos responded seven minutes later with Konstantinos Avlonitis. However, Valdo netted his second of the night in the 76th minute to form the final 3:2 scoreline, giving Pafos the win.
In Larnaca, Ermis Aradippou hosted Nea Salamina. The teams traded chances early on as Carlao had a good chance for Salamina, but Giannis Arabatzis was up to the task and made the save. Leandros Lillis had a chance for Ermis, but the shot went begging wide. The hosts then got a corner, but a header from Innocent Emeghara was turned aside by Robert Veselovsky. The breakthrough would come for the visitors with a flick from Thiago, and Salamina had the 1:0 halftime advantage. The second half didn’t produce much with the best chance Ermis had to steal a point was a through ball for Dimitris Kyprianou, but Veselovsky won the race and halted the opportunity. Salamina held on for the 1:0 win.
