Women’s national team praised by many
After Greece’s big win over Turkey in the quarterfinals of the Eurobasket Women, many praised the Ethniki for advancing to the semi-finals of the competition and for making everyone back home (and abroad) proud.

Greece managed to knock-out one of the favorites of this year’s Eurobasket Women tournament, defeating Turkey 84-55 with an outstanding and dominating performance. The team’s dream of earning a medal at the tournament is close to becoming a reality and today’s historic win did not unnoticed as great athletes, teams, organizations, and even politicians praised the women’s national team for their great success.
The captain of the 2005 National Team that won the Eurobasket, Michalis Kakiouzis wrote on his Instagram account: “Congratulations to all of you. Keep on making us proud. The best are yet to come.”
One of the greatest players in Greek basketball, Nikos Galis, wrote on his personal Facebook account: “Congratulations to our GIRLS that filled us with joy by advancing to the Eurobasket Women semifinal. The wishes of us all will follow them on Saturday night to earn a place in the final.”
Greece international Kostas Papanikolaou wrote on his Facebook account: “Congratulations girls! Continue with the dream and spread smiles and pride throughout Greece!”
Panathinaikos and current Greece captain Ioannis Bourousis kept it simple on Instagram saying “Respect.”
Olympiacos star Georgios Printezis also posted on Instagram saying “many many bravo.”
Tenerife and Greece player George Bogris, tweeted: “I’m living a dream, don't wake me up! @HellenicBF #proud #pameekdromi #oloipelargoi”
ESAKE (Greek Basketball League) proceeded to the following statement: “The Board of Directors of ESAKE and it’s president, Evangelos Galatsopoulos congratulate the players, the coaches, and the whole women’s national team for their historic success in advancing to the semifinals of the Eurobasket Women in the Czech Republic. We also want to congratulate the Greek Basketball Federation and wish the girls of the National Team to return to Greece with a medal”.
Aris BC congratulated the success with the following statement on Facebook: “Aris BC congratulates the Women's Basketball National Team for the triumphant progression to the semifinals of the Eurobasket Women and thus ensuring a ticket to the World Championships. We all wish them to return with a medal.
AEK BC tweeted: “Congratulations on advancing to the semifinals of #EurobasketWomen2017 and to the #FIBAWCWomen2017 #AEKBC” along with uploading a picture of the players’ celebrations.
Former Greek footballer Kostas Katsouranis tweeted: “Congratulations to the Women’s team. The best has yet to come…”
Prime minister Alexis Tsipras tweeted: “Congratulations to the Women's National Team for advancing to the Eurobasket Women semifinals. Girls, you have made us proud once more! #EuroBasketWomen2017”.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, president of Nea Dimokratia political party also tweeted: “Congratulations to the Women’s Basketball National Team for defeating Turkey and advancing to the last 4. Congratulations to our girls”.
