Women's Team in Final of Deaflympics
The women’s deaf Greek national basketball team earned a ticket to the Deaflympics Women's Basketball final after defeating Italy 49-33 in the semifinals. The men’s squad will look to claim the bronze medal against either Venezuela or Ukraine, after losing to Lithuania in the semifinals.
Only a few days after the triumph of the U20 Greek national basketball team, another Greek national team is set to play in the final of a major tournament and claim yet another medal. Against Italy in the semifinals of the Deaflympics, the women’s deaf national team prevailed 49-33 and will look to add another golden page in the history of Greek Basketball when they play Lithuania in Saturday’s final. The Lithuanian team defeated Ukraine rather easily 63-40.
If the women's team brings home the gold medal, they will be the fifth Greek national team to claim a gold medal with an undefeated run in an international competition. The Ethniki won all matches in the Preliminary Group phase including against Turkey (38-37), Kenya (89-21) and Ukraine (53-35) while in the quarterfinals, they defeated China 64-51.
On the other hand, the men’s deaf national team fell to Lithuania 63-53 in the semifinals of the Deaflympics and will look to claim the bronze medal against Ukraine or Venezuela.
