Xanthi and Panionios both held to draws
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 20
|Asteras Tripolis||0 - 0||Xanthi|
|Tsilianidis 29'||Castro 30'|
It’s a case of as you were for Xanthi and Panionios on Saturday as both teams were held to draws in their SuperLeague matchday 20 clashes; Xanthi securing a point in a 1-1 draw at Asteras Tripolis while Panionios and Larissa somehow failed to score in an exciting clash that ended 0-0.
The Akrítes of Xanthi were second best for long spells against a rejuvenated Tripolis at the Theodoros Kolokotronis stadium, with the hosts taking a well-deserved lead after 29 minutes through Kosmas Tsilianidis.
But while Asteras were still congratulating themselves for taking the lead, they had a classic post-goal lapse in concentration and allowed Xanthi to draw level just one minute later, with Matias Castro the man on target.
The point means Milan Rastavac’s Xanthi hang on to fifth place in the table with two thirds of the season now gone, but they also stay level on 28 points with sixth-placed Panionios, after Michalis Grigoriou’s team shared the honours against Larissa.
|Larissa||0 - 0||Panionios|
How the scoreline remained 0-0 will be mystery talked about up in Larissa for at least the rest of next week, as both teams had enough chances to have scored more than once.
Panionios’ Cameroon defender Banana Yaya was guilty of missing Panionios’ best chances, one header from a set-piece in the first half which looked harder to miss, while Larissa’s Croatian striker Sandi Križman was left kicking himself after shooting with in the 53rd minute when he should have found the back of the net.
It was a day of poor finishing then and competent goalkeeping from both sides, however, so in the end both sets of fans went away happy with a point earned.
