Xanthi Fall Behind in Playoff Race, Goalless in Peristeri

GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 28

Atromitos 0 - 0 Larissa
Asteras Tripolis 0 - 0 Xanthi

Both Asteras Tripolis/Xanthi and Atromitos/Larissa ended goalless in Matchday 28.

Xanthi lost crucial ground in their bid to make the SuperLeague playoffs after being held to a goalless draw by Asteras Tripolis in a low-key Matchday 28 contest in the Peloponnese on Sunday.

There was little in the way of goalmouth action on offer at the Theodoros Kolokotronis stadium in Tripoli between two sides who have seen their season’s effort fade badly in the latter stages of the campaign.

The goalless draw helps neither side, with Xanthi now four points adrift of AEK, who occupy the final playoff place in fifth, with two matches to play, while Tripolis are still not out of the relegation dogfight as they are just four points clear of Levadiakos who are 15th.

There were also no goals to show from Atromitos’ match with Larissa in Peristeri - that particular result not helping Larissa to ease their battle to avoid slipping out of the top flight.

Larissa are now hovering just two points and one place above the drop zone in 14th, while Ricardo Sa Pinto’s Atromitos - the epitome of mid-table mediocrity - remain unmoved in eighth place.
