The Akrites looked to be cruising comfortably to a second successive victory of 2018 after building up a 3-0 lead thanks to a double from Erik Jendrisek (5, 79), and another from Dimos Vaxevanidis (28).

But Platanias fought back and gave thome home side a huge scare by scoring twice within the last 10 minutes through Clark N’Sikulu (80) and Antonis Petropoulos (88).

Jose Roca’s team could not find the equaliser though despite late pressure and Xanthi held firm to chalk up a three-point haul which saw them remain in sixth place but move to within two points of fifth-placed Panionios.

Things are looking grim for bottom club Platanias, who have collected just six points from 17 matches and are seven points from safety.

Apollon Smyrnis 1 - 1 Panionios
Bartolini 38'
Covic (OG) 78'

Over the the Georgios Kamaras stadium there was little to choose between the two teams as lowly Apollon took a 38th-minute lead thanks to Sebastian Bartolini against Panionios.

Michalis Grigoriou’s Nea Smyrni outfit, however, did not give up and drew level in fortunate circumstances when Ivan Covic scored an own goal with 12 minutes left.

That came as a relief for Panionios, who finished the game with 10 players after Thanasis Papageorgiou was dismissed in the second minute of added time for picking up a second booking.
