Xanthi have endured a mixed start to the 2017/2018 Super League season, trading wins and losses. They currently find themselves in eighth place of the standings, but they made Greek history thanks to defender Dimitris Meliopoulos during their 3:1 victory against Panetolikos.

Replacing Alfredo Mejia on 69 minutes, 17 year old Meliopoulos became the first player born after the turn of the millennium to make a Super League appearance. With his birth date standing at 22/03/2000, he will forever go down in Greek top division history. Just to make his debut even more worthwhile, Meliopoulos picked up a yellow card two minutes after taking to the pitch.
