euro 2019 qualifying format

UEFA U-21 Euro Qualifying consists of 54 teams separated into 9 groups of 6 teams and. Each team plays the other twice, home and away. The top team from each group qualifies for the final tournament. The four runner-ups with the best record against the teams placed 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in their group advance to a two legged playoff, home and away, for the final two places at Euro 2019. These 11 team will join the hosts, Italy, for the UEFA U-21 Euro 2019 Finals. 

 

standings & tie breakers

The standings are calculated based off a points system used across the soccer world. Three points are awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. If two or more teams are equal on points, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

  1. Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question (i.e. head to head results)
  2. Superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question (i.e. head to head goal difference).
  3. Higher number of goals scored from the group matches played among the teams in question (i.e. head to head goals forced)
  4. Higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question (i.e head to head away goals)
  5. Superior goal difference from ALL group matches played among the teams in question
  6. Higher number of goals scored from ALL group matches played among the teams in question
  7. Higher number of away goals scored from ALL group matches played among the teams in question
  8. Higher position in the UEFA Under-21 coefficient ranking used for the group stage draw
