Manolo Jimenez’s team produced a determined display to seal what may turn out to be a crucial scoreless draw against Brugge, holding on for the draw despite having Croatian forward Marko Livaja sent off.

Livaja received his marching orders after 58 minutes for picking up a second yellow card, which was a shame for AEK who had looked the most likely to break the deadlock in this tight encounter at the Jan Breydelstadion.

There weren’t many clear goalscoring opportunities for either side on the night, and AEK will be hoping they can finish the job at the Olympic Stadium next week so they can take their place in the group stage draw on Friday, August 25.
