Dimitris Diamantidis was honored today by the Euroleague with the title "Euroleague Legend" before Panathinaikos' game against Cedetiva at the OAKA Stadium. Diamantidis is the 5th player to receive this honor behind Sarunas Jasikevicius, Juan Carlos Navarro, Ramunas Siskauskas, and Greek star Theodoros Papaloukas. The home fans created a great atmosphere for their captain chanting 'Diamantidis Oe Oe" and "Μην Σταματησεις Αρχηγε."
Without a doubt Diamantidis is one of the best players to play in the Euroleague. In his 12 year career in the competition he has lifted the Euroleague title on 3 occasions (2007, 2009, 2011), named MVP of the Final Four in 2007 & 2011, awarded with the Euroleague Best Defender award six times (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011), and in 2011 he was named the Euroleague Full Season MVP. Additionally, he leads the Euroleague in all-time assists and steals while sitting 6th in all-time points scored (will climb to 5th soon). Lastly, he is ranked 11th in all-time rebounds and 14th in blocks, being the only guard in the Euroleague's history who finds himself so high in these categories.
Diamantidis has announced his retirement at the end of the season and will look to lead Panathinaikos, one final time, to its 7th Euroleague title!!
Thank you "3D" for a magical career!
