greek soccer cup - semi-finals (leg 1)

AEK 1 - 0 Atromitos
Mantalos 73'

AEK defeated Atromitos in the first leg of the Greek Cup Semi-final 1-0. Petros Mantalos scored the goal for the home side in the 73rd minute. AEK’s win came the day after former manager Gustavo Poyet was sacked by the club.

The home side controlled the pace of the game creating many chances to score in both halves. After a goal-less first half, Mantalos opened the score with a header from Aravidis’ cross, giving AEK the lead. Although AEK had many opportunities to increase their lead, the score held until the final whistle giving AEK an important victory heading in next week’s second leg match.

Unfortunately, no fans were able to attend the game because of the conditions set by Stavros Kontonis in order for the Greek Cup to resume. Reminder: The Greek Cup was suspended after fan violence broke out at the Touba Stadium in the semi-final first leg between PAOK and Olympiacos. The Cup resumed today after a 6-week suspension.
