After an 11 year absence, AEK has returned to the A1 Basket League Playoff Semi-Finals. AEK defeated PAOK 61-54 and won the best of three series 2-1. In the semi-finals, they will play Olympiacos without home court advantage.
Today’s game in Athens was a must win for either team as the series was tied 1-1. The first half was played at a slow rhythm and AEK took a 2 point lead into the half-time break. The second half picked up with both teams exchanging points and the scores remained close. At the end of the third, the home side went on a good run and took a 6 point lead into the fourth. PAOK looked very tired in the fourth, with AEK taking control of the game and increasing their lead to 13 points. The difference was too high for PAOK to overcome and AEK won the game 61-54.
The win gives AEK a place in the A1 Basket League Playoff Semi-Finals for the first time 11 years. They will play Olympiacos in a best of 5 series with the first game taking place at the S.E.F. Stadium in Piraeus.
