Real Madrid Victorious in “El Clasico”

Real Madrid stunned the home fans defeating Barcelona 1-2 in the “El Clasico” Spanish derby. Pique opened the score for Barca and Benzema equalized before Ronaldo completed the comeback giving a thrilling win to the visitors.

The first half ended 0-0 with little action, although Benzema and Suarez missed opportunities to open the score. The second half provided better entertainment and Pique opened the score in the 56th minute with a header from a corner. However, a quick response from the visitors brought the game level six minutes later with Benzema’s acrobatic shot. Despite Real having 10 men, Ronaldo was the one to find the back of the net 5 minutes before the end completing the comeback win for Real.

After today’s defeat, Barcelona’s lead was cut to 6 points ahead of Atletico Madrid while Real sit in third 7 points from the top. Before the match, Barcelona honored the great Johan Cruyff for his contribution to the club with a mosaic (coreo) prepared by the fans. Cruyff passed away last week after succumbing to cancer at the age of 69.
