The Greek National Water Polo Team qualified for the FINA World League Super-Final (Last 8) despite their 13-10 loss to Hungary. Greece finished first in Group A and will be one of Europe’s representatives at the Super-Final in China.
Greece traveled to Hungary for the final matchday in the Preliminary Round of the FINA World League. The Greeks could have lost by as much as four goals and still be in the top spot in Group A. Greece fell in Hungary 13-10, but the result was enough to see the Greeks through to the World League Super-Final. Both teams ended atop of Group A with 15 points, however Greece held the head to head advantage, winning the first game against Hungary 12-8 in Greece.
Fountoulis scored 5 goals for Greece and Vlachopoulos followed with 4 goals. The Super-Final, which consists of 8 teams, will take place in China next month. This is another great achievement for the national team as they have had much success in international water polo in recent years. Our national team is one of the favorites to win a medal at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.
