GREEK SUPERLEAGUE PLAYOFFS - MATCHDAY 1
|PAOK||2 - 1||AEK|
| Rodrigues 62'
A late goal from substitute Ioannis Mystakidis gave PAOK the 2-1 comeback victory in the first Matchday of the SuperLeague Playoffs. With the win, PAOK is now atop of the Playoffs standings with Panathinaikos.
AEK seemed to be slightly better in a pretty even first half between the two teams. Early on, the match lacked a rhythm and the absence of fans at the Touba Stadium did not help the matter. In the 16th minute, AEK was awarded a penalty for a handball, but the referee (Mantalos) reversed his decision and gave an offensive foul against AEK. With only a minute remaining in the half, PAOK’s keeper, Glykos, made a mess of Vargas’ corner and Johansson opened the score for the visitors. AEK kept a compact defense early in the second half, but Rodrigues with a brilliant strike brought PAOK leveled 1-1. The match headed for a draw but substitute, Mystakidis, gave PAOK the 2-1 lead with a great header from Tzavellas’ long ranged pass. Mystakidis was subbed on one minute before finding the back of the net. PAOK held onto the lead and got all three points, climbing to the top of the SuperLeague table with Panathinaikos (drew 1-1 away to Panionios).
PAOK will travel to Athens on Saturday to play Panathinaikos, while AEK will host Panionios in matchday 2 of the SuperLegaue playoffs.
