Panathinaikos “broke” Olympiacos’ home court advantage in the Greek A1 Basket League Playoff Finals after their 81-83 victory at the S.E.F. Stadium. The Prasini took a well-deserved 1-0 series lead in a thrilling game in Piraeus.

Panathinaikos took an early lead in the game going ahead by 9 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Olympiacos was able to bring the game level (37-37), but the visitors re-gained their lead by halftime (41-47).  Both teams created turnovers at the beginning of the third quarter before Olympiacos’ 6-0 run that put them ahead 56-55. Olympiacos kept their slight one point advantage into the fourth quarter. The final quarter was a thriller, with both teams exchanging the lead throughout the period. With less than two minutes remaining, Panathinaikos had a 1 point lead before Fotsis hit an important 3-pointer to increase the lead to four. On the next possession, Lojeski responded with a 3-pointer of his own and kept Olympiacos in the game. The home side was forced to foul, but the Prasini were able to keep their composure at the free-throw line. Panathinaikos kept a two point lead while Olympiacos had one final possession to send the game to overtime (or win it with a 3-pointer). However, Panathinaikos’ great defense gave Papanikolaou an impossible look and the visitors came away with the 81-83 victory.

For Panathinaikos, Calathes came close to a triple-double (16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists) and Feldeine had 15 points. Lojeski was the leading scorer for Olympiacos with 21 points and Printezis followed with 15 points. Printezis was one of Olympiacos’ best players, despite losing his father early today.

Game 2 will take place at the OAKA Stadium on May 22nd were Panathinaikos will look to increase their series lead 2-0. On the other hand, Olympiacos will hope to re-gain their home court advantage with an away win Sunday.
