- Kifissia Will Join the FIBA Champions League -
Greece will have a 3rd representative in the FIBA Champions League! Kifissia will join Aris and PAOK in FIBA's new competition that will begin next season.
Kifissia announced today that FIBA accepted their request to join next year's Champions League. Kifissia finished in 6th place in this year's Basket League Playoffs and was knocked out by Aris in the quarter-finals of the competition. They will be the third Greek team in next year's FIBA Champions League after Aris and POAK agreed to take part in the new competition. As the 3rd representative from Greece, Kifissia will start in the qualifying rounds, while Aris (will finish in 3rd or 4th) and PAOK (finished 5th) have an automatic place in the regular season.
AEK, who will finish the season in 3rd or 4th place (leads the 3rd place series 2-1 against Aris), has decided to stick with the Euroleague's 2nd tier competition, the Eurocup, and will not play in the FIBA Champions League. Additionally, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have a 10-year contract with the Euroleague and will continue to play in Europe's premier basketball competition.
