The Greek Soccer Cup Final has been postponed! EPO did not reverse their decision on the assistant referees for this Saturday’s Final, causing Stavros Kontonis to postpone tomorrow’s match between AEK and Olympiacos.
Yesterday, EPO announced the assistant referees for the Greek Cup Final. According to Kontonis, these were not the referees that were agreed upon during negotiations between the Deputy Minister of Athletics and EPO last week. More information here…
Kontonis gave The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) until 12:00 PM local time (5:00 AM EST) to reverse their decision. EPO’s Board of Directors had an emergency meeting this morning to discuss the issue, however they did not change their position on the matter. Additionally, the Police Department did not recommend for the final to take place. This series of events led to the announcement “With the decision of the Deputy Minister of Athletics, Mr. Stavros Kontonis, the Greek Soccer Cup Final will be postponed at the request of the Greek Police and D.E.A.V (Standing Committee Response of Violence).” We now wait on EPO’s response after the postponement of the final.
