On a magical night in Belgrade, the “Orthodox Brothers” Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) and Olympiacos played to a friendly 2-2 draw. The home crowd created a great atmosphere and it seemed that Olympiacos was playing at “home” rather than away.

Red Star opened the score with Orlandic in the 36th minute and Herrnani was able to quickly bring the scores level 3 minutes later. The second half had a similar outcome with the home side pulling ahead 2-1. Shortly after Kasami equalized for the visitors, shaping the final score. Olympiacos has one game left in the season, the Greek Cup Final against AEK.

The home fans created a tremendous atmosphere while singing Olympiacos & Red Star chants in both Greek and Serbian. Red Star and Olympiacos have developed a friendship over the years and the fans of both clubs have a great relationship. This relationship causes a great connection and it was seen in tonight’s match. The affiliation between the fans is called “The Orthodox Brothers” as the clubs are united by not only their colors (Red & White), but also their Orthodox religion. Many players have also played for both sides including Predrag Djordjevic, Sinisa Gogic, Ilia Ivic, Darko Kovacevic, and Luka Milivojevic. Tonight was the 11th friendly between the two teams.

*A side note: The Red Star fans expressed their dissatisfaction with UEFA’s decision to include Kosovo in the Confederation. The home supporters sent a strong message to UEFA, creating a stadium-wide tifo (coreo) stating “UEFA Supports Terrorism.”
