Rethymno held Aris to 60 points in Crete, shocking the team from Thessaloniki with a 69-60 victory. The hosts were ahead at the end of the first quarter, but a good second period saw Ari take a 30-34 point lead into halftime. At the beginning of the third quarter, Aris went ahead by 8 points but then the team from Thessaloniki lost their rhythm and continued their poor shooting from behind the arch (finished the game 3/33) as Rethymno re-took the lead. The hosts took a fourth point advantage into the final quarter, where Aris responded to cut the lead to 1 with over 6 minutes remaining. However, the visitors continued to shoot from behind the arch as Rethymno increased their lead and ultimately came away with the 69-60 victory. Rethymno is now 2 for 2 and has high hopes for a good season while Aris will need to quickly regroup before next week’s derby against PAOK.

On a celebratory night for AEK the Kitronomavri easily defeated Lavrio 96-56 at the OAKA Nick Galis Stadium. Before the match, AEK honored their legendary center, Georgios Trontzos, by retiring the #6 jersey from the club. The match was decided as early as the first quarter were AEK quickly took a 19 point lead. AEK’s biggest lead was 42 points (92-50) near the end of the game as AEK rounded off an easy night. Dixon was the hosts’ leading scorer with 12 points and Ivanovic followed with 11 points.

PAOK bounced back after their shocking defeat to Doxa Lefkadas in their first match of the new season by defeating Kolossos Rodou 85-73 in Thessaloniki. Despite falling behind in the first quarter, PAOK’s strong start in the second quarter gave them the the lead at halftime, which was increased to double digits in the third quarter. A late push from Kolossos Rodou in the fourth quarter saw them get back into the game, but PAOK comfortably held onto their advantage and the 85-73 victory. The win comes at a good time as it will give PAOK confidence before next week’s derby against Aris.

Prometheus made history as they earned their first ever victory in the Greek Basket League. The team from Patra defeated Doxa Lefkadas 78-70 in a derby between two newly promoted sides. Prometheus was the better side, especially in the second half, and will be happy to accompany their first home game of the season with a win. Doxa Lefkadas could not make it 2 for 2 after they surprisingly defeated PAOK in last week’s opener.

Trikala earned their first victory of the season in an exciting match against Apollon Patras, coming away with a 65-60 victory. The hosts were better in the critical times of the game, with Tsgarakis and Barlow leading the hosts with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
