-- A Confidence Boosting Win for AEK --
GREEK SOCCER CUP - GROUP STAGE (group f)
|AEK||4 - 0||Kerkyra|

AEK easily defeated Kerkyra 4-0 at the OAKA Stadium in their opening match in Group F of the Greek Cup. Galo opened the score early in the first half as three goals in the final 12 minutes from Christodoulopoulos, Pekhart, and Diogo’s own goal shaped the final score. The win comes after AEK dropped points over the weekend in the Superleague and before their big derby away to PAOK.
There were many changes to AEK’s starting lineup for their cup fixture at home to Kerkyra. The hosts found an early opener with Galo’s shot in the 7th minute and came close to doubling their lead when Lambropoulos’ header was stopped by the crossbar. The Kitrinomavri failed to confirm their victory with another goal in the first half and the fans showed their frustration at the halftime whistle.
In the second half, AEK was wrongfully denied two penalties by the referee, Kiotzenis, as the match remained 1-0. Late in the match, with the additions of Mantalos and Johansson, AEK secured all 3 points by scoring 3 goals in the final 12 minutes. Christodoulopoulos celebrated his first goal with the club, finishing a perfect cross from Galo, and Pekhart added a third shortly thereafter. In stoppage time, Diogo’s miss kick found the back of his own net and gave AEK the 4-0 victory.
The comfortable result comes at a good time for AEK as they travel to Thessaloniki to play PAOK on Sunday in the Superleague. AEK, who dropped points over the weekend against Panionios, will use today’s win as a confidence booster in hopes of earning a good result at the Toumba Stadium.
