Both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos were victorious at home in the final matches of the Greek Basket League’s 6th Round of play. Panathinaikos defeated Kolossos Rodou 80-65 while Olympiacos defeated Apollon Patras 83-55. A tough week awaits both teams in the Euroleague as they will play Spanish opposition on Wednesday (Real Madrid and Barcelona) before they face off on Friday at the OAKA Stadium.
Panathinaikos easily defeated Kolossos Rodou 80-65 to move up to 5-1 in this year’s Greek Basket League. The Prasini took a commanding double digit lead early in the game and comfortably held onto their advantage until the final buzzer. Bourousis was on a great night putting up 19 points (16 in the first half) and getting 8 rebounds while Pappas followed with 12 points. After today’s defeat, Kolossos Rodou moves down to 2-4 for the season. A tough week now awaits Panathinaikos as they will play two games for the Euroleague, starting with Real Madrid in Spain on Wednesday and then at home to their big rivals Olympiacos on Friday. Olympiacos was great on all fronts against Apollon Patras, both offensively and defensively, and came away with an easy 83-55 victory. The visitors were in the game for the opening 12 minutes and from that point on, Olympiacos took over. Coach Yiannis Sfairopoulos gave playing time to many players as a difficult week awaits Olympiacos in the Euroleague (host Barcelona on Wednesday and travel to Panathinaikos on Friday). Papapetrou, Lojeski, Papanikolaou, and Athinaiou stood out for Olympiacos in today’s win.
