Panionios was eliminated from the Greek Cup after Kissamikos and Levadiakos played to a 1-1 draw in Group H. Xanthi secured their place in the next round with a 1-1 draw against Agrotikos Asteras while Asteras Tripolis took first place away from Aris in Group E.

One of the better teams in this year’s Superleague, Panionios, will not continue in the Greek Cup. The Kyanerythri were left out after Kissamikos and Levadiakos played to a 1-1 draw in Crete. The hosts were better in the first half and found the breakthrough in the 28th minute with Vlachos’ goal. Five minutes after the restart, Giakoumakis scored the equalizer for the visitors and ultimately gave them a spot in the Last 16 of the competition. The draw gave Kissamikos first place in the group with 7 points while Levadiakos remained unbeaten in second place with 5 points (1 win and 2 draws) after 3 games. Panionios, who will play bottom of the table Panserraikos, sits on one point and was mathematically eliminated with today’s result.

Agrotikos Asteras and Xanthi battled it out for second place in Group D as a draw would suffice for Xanthi while Agrotikos Asteras needed the win. Nieto opened the scoring for Xanthi in the 57th minute, giving his side the clear advantage to finish second in the group. However, ten minutes later Triantafyllakos brought Agrotikos Asteras back into the game with his converted penalty after Papageorgiou’s handball inside the penalty area. The final 15 minutes were suspenseful as Agrotikos Asteras looked for the goal that would send them to the next round, but Xanthi held onto the 1-1 draw and earned a ticket to the knockout stages. Today’s result keeps Xanthi unbeaten in their last 12 fixtures in both the Superleague and Greek Cup.

Asteras Tripolis took first place in Group E after thrashing Aiginiakos 1-4 on the road. Iglesias opened the scoring for the visitors in the 7th minute before Gourtsas quickly equalized four minutes later. Tsilianidis gave Asteras the lead at the half hour mark and two second half goals from Mazza and Stanisavljevic (penalty) gave Asteras the 1-4 victory. The win put Asteras on seven points and gave them first place in the group, taking advantage of Aris’ slip up against Veria (0-0 draw). Aiginiakos bowed out of the competition with 3 points from three games.

Aris secured their place in the next round of the Greek Cup after a dull 0-0 draw against already eliminated Veria. The match in Thessaloniki had the pace of a preseason friendly as Aris lost their spot atop the group to Asteras Tripolis (defeated Aiginiakos 1-4) and will enter Tuesday’s draw as an unseeded team.
