Olympiacos barely escaped with the three points against Panetolikos coming away with a 3-1 win at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Kousas opened the scoring for the visitors in the 52nd minute before Seba equalized nine minutes later. Cardozo and Figueiras scored two goals within two minutes (83rd and 85th minute) to give Olympiacos the victory.
The first half saw Panetolikos waste two great chances with Rosa and Paulo missing the target one-on-one with Olympiacos’ keeper, Leali. Olympiacos came inches away from taking the lead late in the first half, but Cardozo’s rocket from inside the penalty area was denied by the crossbar.
In the second half, Panetolikos shocked the home side when Kousas’ diving header (from Markovski’s free kick) found the back of the net, giving his side the 0-1 lead. Panetolikos’ lead only lasted nine minutes with Seba scoring the all important equalizer after Androutsos’ great individual effort set up Cardozo, who played a perfect ball to Seba at the back post.
After the goal, the game opened up for both teams as the pace picked up on the pitch. Olympiacos threatened on two occasions with Cardozo’s effort from inside the penalty area missing the target (77th minute) and three minutes later, Manthatis’ long-range shot deflected onto the crossbar and went out.
Olympiacos’ pressure paid off in the 83rd minute when Milivojevic brilliantly played Figueiras on the right side, who set up Cardozo for an easy tap in and the 2-1 lead. It was Cardozo’s second goal in two games for the Erythrolefki. Minutes later, the hosts secured all three points when Figueiras’ deflected shot found the back of the net giving, Olympiacos the 3-1 win.
Despite the close call, today’s win keeps Olympiacos seven points clear atop the Superleague standings (31 points) while Panetolikos remain mid-table with 15 points after 12 games.
