Kostas Mitroglou scored Benfica’s opening goal against Rio Ave in the Portuguese Primeira Liga as his side went on to win 2-0. It was Mitroglou’s first goal in league play in over two months.
It only took Kostas Mitroglou 14 minutes to give Benfica the lead in their league match against Rio Ave. The Greek striker kept his cool in front of goal to find the back of the net for the first time in over two months of league play. Last week, Mitroglou did manage to score twice in Benfica’s 0-3 victory over Real SC in the Taca de Portugal (Portuguese Cup).
Mitroglou’s goal led the way for Benfica as Pizzi added a second goal to give The Eagles a 2-0 victory. With the win, Benfica sit first in the standings heading into the new year, four points ahead of second placed FC Porto and nine points ahead of third placed Braga.
