Unstoppable Atromitos

Larissa 1 - 2 Atromitos
Maroukakis 47'

Limnios 45'
Le Tallec 56'

Another great performance and result for Atromitos! Georgios Korakakis’ men came away with another impressive victory on the road after defeating Larissa 1-2. Limnios opened the scoring with an acrobatic strike late in the first half before Maroukakis equalized early in the second half. Le Tallec scored the winner for Atromitos in the 56th minute as they continue their tremendous form of late.

The opening minutes saw two great opportunities fall to Larissa (both with Nazlidis’ header) with Gorbunov making one of the saves of the season and from the ensuing corner, another header from Nazlidis just went wide. Atromitos began to gain ground on the pitch after the 20th minute and it took 43 minutes for the first goal of the match to be scored. The cross came into Larissa’s penalty area and the miss-clearance fell to Limnios, who with an acrobatic effort scored his first professional goal of his career.

Atromitos’ lead did not last long as Larissa found an equalizer two minutes after the restart when Maroukakis turned in Nazlidis’ cross. In the 56th minute, a quick counter sent Atromitos on the attack which left Le Tallec unmarked at the top of the penalty area, and his shot deflected into the back of the net to regive Atromitos the lead. The Vyssini pressed for equalizer in the final 25 minutes but in the end, the visitors held on for the 1-2 victory.

Atromitos’ transformation under Georgios Korakakis has been one of the stories of the season as they now sit tied for third place along with PAS Giannina on 17-points. Atromitos, who defeated PAOK last week in Thessaloniki, will have another tough test next weekend when they host Panathinaikos knowing that a win will send them into second place. Larissa continue to sit near the bottom of the table and will travel to Xanthi for Matchday 14.
