England does what it knows best...choke at a major tournament. Iceland came away with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over England and advanced to the quarter-finals. England took an early lead with Rooney, but two goals within 15 minutes was enough to give Iceland the win. Another tournament ends in disappointment for England as Iceland will go on to play France on Friday.

The match started off in the greatest fashion for England when they were awarded a penalty in the 4th minute. A clumsy tackle by Iceland’s goalkeeper on Sterling, set up Rooney at the penalty spot and he converted to give England the 1-0 lead. However, Iceland quickly responded with a goal of their own from a great flick-on header that fell to the feet of Sigurdsson, bringing Iceland level. The outsiders were not done there and miraculously took the lead 15 minutes later when Sigorthsson’s well-placed shot beat Joe Hart. England failed to respond and Iceland took their advantage into halftime. England controlled the possession of the second half but could not produce a chance to threaten Iceland’s lead, as the upset gloomed over the heads of the English players. Great defending from Iceland along with poor execution from England kept the 2-1 score at the final whistle, sending Icelandic fans into celebration.

Iceland's win over England is the biggest surprise at Euro 2016 and arguably one of the biggest upsets in recent years. Iceland will continue their magical run at Euro 2016 (started in qualifying-left the Dutch out) and now have a tough test against the hosts, France, in the quarter-finals. As for England, another major tournament goes to waste with an early exit. England remains WINLESS in the knockout stages at the European Championships as they now look to World Cup Qualifying in September.
